Behavioral Health Medical Director – Psychiatrist – California Medicaid (Part-Time)

Location: California; virtual work with required in-person meetings, and candidates must live within a reasonable commuting distance of the listed California locations

Salary: $178,135–$290,437.50 per year

What you will do

• Oversee California Medicaid behavioral health services, primarily through utilization management reviews across all levels of care.
• Support clinicians in providing timely and consistent responses to members and providers.
• Conduct peer-to-peer clinical reviews and appeal reviews with attending physicians and other providers.
• Advise health plan partners and support behavioral health utilization management and case management teams.
• Interpret clinical guidelines and medical policies, and propose new policies based on healthcare changes.
• Lead clinical and non-clinical initiatives that improve healthcare quality, cost, outcomes, and effectiveness.

Requirements

• MD or DO degree with applicable board certification through ABMS or AOA.
• Active, unrestricted medical license to practice in California.
• Must be located in California and in a U.S. state or territory when conducting utilization reviews or appeals.
• At least 10 years of clinical experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• At least 5 years of healthcare experience for behavioral health roles within Health Solutions and Carelon organizations.
• Ability to work 25 hours per week across 5 days, with no weekend or holiday expectations.

Nice to have

• Board certification in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry or Addiction Psychiatry/Medicine.
