Embedded System Engineer (FPGA)

Location: On-site at Spellman High Voltage headquarters in Hauppauge, New York, United States

Salary: $96,000–$131,000 per year, plus a full benefits package.

What you will do

• Support the design, development, implementation, testing, and documentation of firmware and software for high-voltage power supplies.
• Contribute hands-on to firmware and software development using C, Verilog, VHDL, Assembly, C#, VB6, Java, WPF, Linux, and RTOS-based environments.
• Implement product features based on requirements in collaboration with engineering peers and global engineering teams.
• Prepare circuit and block diagrams, test reports, manuals, technical reports, release documentation, and other engineering materials.
• Support design reviews, design verification testing, requirements interpretation, and software/firmware release activities.
• Contribute to project planning, technical solution definition, risk assessment, and improvement of firmware and software release processes.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering; a master’s degree is preferred.
• At least 3 years of experience with embedded systems tasks and projects.
• Understanding of FPGA code development principles using Verilog or VHDL.
• Understanding of digital systems and components including ADCs, DACs, UART, RS-485, RS-232, embedded Ethernet, USB, microcontrollers, DSPs, memory, PWM devices, and FPGAs.
• Understanding of emulators, debuggers, JTAG, integrated development environments, and design verification tools.
• Experience or exposure to engineering tools such as MATLAB-Simulink and PSIM, plus the ability to prepare customer-facing design documentation and collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
