TL;DR

What you will do

  • Develop and execute enterprise strategies, standards, policies, risk-based criteria, and technical governance for chemical safety and food toxicology.
  • Provide senior technical authority on chemical hazard identification, toxicological risk assessment, exposure assessment, ingredients, packaging, food contact materials, and analytical testing.
  • Lead ingredient and food contact material reviews, laboratory testing strategies, method selection, data interpretation, and standardization of equipment and methods across the manufacturing network.
  • Lead technical responses to chemical safety incidents, supplier non-conformances, recalls, regulatory requests, and customer or consumer escalations.
  • Monitor scientific, regulatory, legislative, consumer, and industry trends and develop risk mitigation plans and recommendations for senior leaders.
  • Build internal capability through training and coaching, while establishing metrics, dashboards, and reporting for chemical safety risks and program effectiveness.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • 15+ years of progressive experience in food, beverage, consumer packaged goods, ingredient, packaging, or related technical environments.
  • Leadership experience in chemical safety, food toxicology, ingredient risk assessment, analytical chemistry, food contact materials, contaminant evaluation, or related food safety disciplines.
  • Experience with technical governance, enterprise standards, cross-functional risk decisions, external laboratory strategies, incident response, and regulatory or customer-facing technical matters.
  • Experience working with food manufacturing environments, supplier quality systems, co-manufacturers, ingredient commercialization, food packaging, external laboratories, and analytical chemistry programs.
  • Knowledge of laboratory procedures and analytical equipment, including GC/MS, LC/QTOF, and ICPMS, plus experience managing and developing technical teams.

Nice to have

  • Ph.D. in Toxicology, Food Toxicology, Food Science, Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, or a related scientific discipline.
  • Board certification by the American Board of Toxicology or an equivalent specialized toxicology credential.
  • Certifications or training in HACCP, PCQI, Lead Auditor, ASQ, Lean Six Sigma, risk assessment, or regulatory science.
  • Deep expertise in food-relevant chemical hazards, analytical chemistry methods, laboratory operations, method validation, exposure calculations, and toxicological thresholds.
  • Experience with industry association panels, scientific working groups, regulatory forums, crisis management, and senior leadership reporting.
