Staff Bioinformatics Scientist (C++)

Location: US - California - San Diego; hybrid work

Salary: $155,600–$233,400 base salary annually, plus eligible bonus, commission, and equity opportunities.

What you will do

• Design, prototype, and implement signal-processing and bioinformatics algorithms for genomic data.
• Analyze data and optimize algorithms, software design, and source code for speed and accuracy.
• Develop, debug, and integrate optimized C/C++ software on Linux for multithreaded applications.
• Address signal impairments introduced by optical, chemical, and mechanical systems.
• Collaborate with external teams to support smooth end-to-end workflows.
• Provide technical leadership and represent the team at project and executive levels.

Requirements

• Master’s degree or PhD in bioinformatics, biology, engineering, physical sciences, computer science, mathematics, statistics, or an equivalent field.
• At least 6 years of related experience with a Master’s degree.
• Experience with signal processing, data analysis, and statistical approaches.
• Intermediate or higher programming experience with C++ or another object-oriented language such as Java or C#.
• Ability to define software architecture, develop and debug applications, and solve complex problems.
• Strong written and verbal communication, initiative, curiosity, attention to detail, and ability to collaborate effectively.

Nice to have

• Experience with communications theory, information theory, time-series analysis, and temporal data.
• Experience with Python and visualization libraries.
• Experience with multithreaded software, real-time systems, or software acceleration.
• Familiarity with Agile development processes such as Scrum and version control systems such as Git.
