TL;DR
Computational Genomics Senior Research Scientist (AI) (human genetics and genomics): Designing and interpreting computational genomics studies to advance target discovery, biomarker development, and mechanistic understanding with an accent on large-scale biological datasets, sequencing, and statistical analysis. Location: San Diego, California, United States; hybrid work with at least three days per week on-site, or on-site work five days per week with ad hoc flexibility.

Base salary: $129,900–$194,900 per year, plus eligibility for an annual bonus and annual equity awards.

What you will do

  • Partner with cross-functional disease project teams to identify questions addressable through human genetics, genomics, sequencing, and computational analysis.
  • Design, execute, and interpret human genetic, genomic, and multi-omic studies for target discovery, target validation, biomarker development, and mechanistic understanding.
  • Develop and apply computational and statistical methods to complex biological datasets, integrating internal and public resources.
  • Own analyses from biological question through actionable recommendation and communicate conclusions, limitations, and next steps to scientific audiences.
  • Shape genomics strategies across discovery programs and ensure rigorous study design, analysis plans, and interpretation.
  • Collaborate with computational and experimental scientists to apply machine learning and AI technologies to genomic and human genetic data.

Requirements

  • PhD in computational biology, bioinformatics, genomics, human genetics, systems biology, bioengineering, or a related field with 3+ years of relevant postdoctoral or industry experience; alternatively, a related Master's degree with 8+ years of relevant industry experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in analyzing, visualizing, and interpreting human genetics, genomic, and next-generation sequencing data.
  • Experience applying computational methods and bioinformatics tools to large-scale biological datasets.
  • Proficiency in R, Python, Unix/Linux environments, and high-performance computing systems.
  • Strong foundation in statistics and genetics, including human genetic variation in disease biology.
  • Ability to independently drive scientific questions from study design through interpretation and influence project decisions.
