Manager, Software Engineering DevOps

Location: Chicago, United States; hybrid work with up to 2 days per week of remote work

Salary: $140,800–$232,500 per year; annual discretionary incentive target of 8%–15%

What you will do

• Lead L1 and L2 engineers supporting production application deployments, middleware, and platform infrastructure.
• Manage the full incident lifecycle, including triage, investigation, resolution, escalation, post-incident reviews, and root-cause analysis.
• Define and enforce severity-based SLA targets, monitor compliance, and report trends and improvement actions to leadership.
• Reduce monitoring noise, improve alert-to-incident ratios and MTTR, and drive permanent fixes for recurring incidents.
• Own the runbook library and ensure incident, environment configuration, and operational documentation remains accurate and current.
• Manage a team of 6–10 engineers and contingent workers, including scheduling, 24×7 support coverage, performance management, and career development.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of hands-on environment operations, production support, or infrastructure operations experience across four or more relevant disciplines.
• Previous people management or team lead experience; formal people management experience is strongly preferred.
• Deep production support experience with deployment pipelines, container orchestration, messaging platforms, middleware, monitoring, and configuration management.
• Hands-on knowledge of Harness, Jenkins, GitHub, Kubernetes, Apache Kafka, HashiCorp Vault, monitoring platforms, and ServiceNow or equivalent ITSM tools.
• Ability to define and enforce SLA frameworks, build operational dashboards, analyze MTTR and alert metrics, and make sound decisions during ambiguous incidents.
• Availability for shift work, 24×7 on-call response, and planned or emergency maintenance windows is required.

Nice to have

• Experience in financial services or another regulated industry, including change governance, audit requirements, and production access controls.
• Certified Kubernetes Administrator, ITIL, HashiCorp Vault, Harness, or associate-level AWS, Azure, or GCP certification.
