Associate Director of Public Relations (Biotech)

Location: San Diego, California, United States; hybrid schedule with 3–4 in-office days per week. Must reside in the greater San Diego area and commute to the corporate offices.

Base salary: $155,600–$233,400 per year, plus eligible bonus, commission, and equity opportunities.

A genomics and biotechnology company expanding access to genomic technology to support health equity, disease detection, diagnosis, and new treatment options.

What you will do

• Design and implement proactive public relations strategies aligned with business objectives, scientific leadership, and brand voice.
• Lead the media program, including journalist engagement, relationship development, global enablement, and creative media strategy.
• Coordinate global PR activities, media moments, agencies, and communications stakeholders.
• Create press releases, media pitches, executive briefings, and other communications materials.
• Build visibility for executives and leadership voices while developing relationships across biotech, healthcare, scientific media, business, and influencer communities.
• Monitor coverage, analyze campaign effectiveness, support crisis communications, and provide strategic counsel to marketing, investor relations, R&D, digital, and business teams.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in public relations, communications, journalism, or a relevant scientific discipline.
• At least 15 years of related public relations experience, including 7+ years of management experience.
• Experience in biotech, life sciences, healthcare, or another scientific or technology-driven organization.
• Outstanding written and oral communication skills, including the ability to translate complex scientific content for diverse audiences.
• Experience with successful PR campaigns, issues management, strategic problem-solving, media monitoring tools, and communications analytics.
• Ability to manage multiple projects under tight deadlines and work outside standard business hours when required for announcements, milestones, or crisis communications.
