TL;DR
Director, Strategic Oncology Communications and Media Relations (Oncology): Developing and executing strategic oncology communications and media relations programs for commercial indications, pipeline milestones, regulatory approvals, and medical meetings with an accent on scientific storytelling, executive counsel, and patient-focused reputation building. Focus on translating complex scientific and commercial information into compelling messages, securing high-impact media opportunities, managing issues communications, and leading agencies and budgets.

Location: Remote for US-based candidates only; the role is associated with Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Base pay: $191,200–$286,800 per year, plus potential annual incentive compensation, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

  • Advise oncology commercial, R&D, regulatory, medical, government affairs, advocacy, and senior executive stakeholders on strategic communications.
  • Develop and execute external and internal communications strategies for oncology brands, pipeline programs, disease education, data milestones, regulatory approvals, and medical congresses.
  • Lead communications campaigns and materials, including press releases, Q&As, key messages, digital content, and briefing documents.
  • Build proactive media relations with national, business, healthcare, pharmaceutical, science, and trade outlets.
  • Prepare executives and subject matter experts for interviews and provide media training and coaching.
  • Manage issues communications, external PR agencies, budgets, and resources.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Life Sciences, or a related field.
  • 10–12 years of experience in corporate communications, public relations, or a related field.
  • Pharmaceutical or biotech experience is preferred, with oncology experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience developing and executing strategic communications plans in a complex, global environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex scientific and commercial information clearly.
  • Strong project management, interpersonal, collaboration, influencing, agency management, and budget management skills.

Nice to have

  • Advanced degree.
  • Experience in oncology communications within the pharmaceutical or biotech industry.
