PI / Finish Repair Tech (Fiberglass): Building, inspecting, and repairing fiberglass boat hulls, decks, and small parts with an accent on gel-coat finishing, defect identification, and structural integrity. Focus on mixing gel coat and catalyst to specification, repairing surface defects, and maintaining quality and safety standards in a marine manufacturing environment.

Location: Vonore, Tennessee, United States; full-time onsite role

Salary: $20.80–$23.35 per hour for Tech I or $23.00–$25.75 per hour for Tech II.

What you will do

  • Build and repair fiberglass boat hulls, decks, and small parts using hand and specialty tools.
  • Apply and finish gel coat, solvents, paints, pastes, putty, and wax while following proper disposal procedures.
  • Inspect parts and identify fiberglass finish defects, inconsistencies, and quality issues.
  • Follow job instructions, read production schedules, and communicate part-completion status verbally and in writing.
  • For Tech II, demonstrate correct gel-to-catalyst mixtures and repair defects within specified timeframes.
  • Protect boat components, maintain a clean work area, and follow PPE and safety requirements.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Working knowledge of hand tools and the ability to read prints and production schedules.
  • Ability to handle suspended loads and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Effective written and verbal communication, adaptability, and strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, hearing protection, and gloves.
  • For Tech II, successful completion of the internal skills test is required.

Nice to have

  • Two to three years of boat-building experience.
  • Quality control or inspection experience in a manufacturing or marine environment.
  • Experience with calipers, micrometers, coordinate measuring machines, and inspection documentation.
  • Ability to identify quality issues, recommend corrective actions, and maintain accurate records.
