Head of Platform Engineering - Control Plane (AI)

Location: New York, New Jersey or Pennsylvania; up to 10% travel within the US

Salary: $152,290–$250,195 annually, plus potential incentive compensation

What you will do

• Lead the development and implementation of platform control plane initiatives, including governance-as-code and execution control functions.
• Build and scale flexible, governed, cloud-native platform services for enterprise systems.
• Own the roadmap and delivery of identity, tenant boundaries, policy enforcement, approvals, evaluation gates, observability, auditability, FinOps, secrets management, and lifecycle workflows.
• Develop reliable APIs, registries, workflow services, policy engines, and orchestration services with clear contracts for engineering teams.
• Drive architecture reviews, design standards, testing, CI/CD, incident response, reliability practices, and operational metrics.
• Partner with product, architecture, security, risk, compliance, operations, and engineering stakeholders to turn ambiguous needs into reusable platform capabilities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, engineering, management, or a related field.
• Strong people leadership experience, including hiring, coaching, performance management, and developing senior technical talent.
• Deep hands-on experience designing, building, and operating distributed, cloud-native platform services in production.
• Experience with platform, infrastructure, developer platform, AI/ML platform, security platform, or other reusable enterprise engineering capabilities.
• Experience with AWS platform engineering, multi-tenant systems, RBAC/ABAC, service accounts, policy-as-code, observability, cost attribution, and secure access patterns.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.

Nice to have

• Experience with agentic AI systems, LLM platforms, model gateways, agent registries, evaluation frameworks, or AI developer tooling.
• Knowledge of AI governance patterns such as prompt-injection defense, PII handling, output filtering, risk tiering, allow-lists, human-in-the-loop controls, and audit trails.
• Background in MLOps, LLMOps, AIOps, model lifecycle management, or production AI operations.
• Experience creating paved roads, reference architectures, templates, SDKs, CLI tools, or self-service workflows.
• Experience working in regulated, matrixed, global organizations with onshore and offshore teams.
