Principal, Software Engineering: Software Development Test (SDET)

Location: Chicago, 125 S Franklin; hybrid work environment with up to 2 remote days per week

Salary: $158,600–$263,700 annually, plus a target discretionary incentive range of 23%–30%

What you will do

• Define and lead performance testing, automation, and quality engineering strategy across critical clearing, risk, and settlement systems.
• Architect performance engineering practices for cloud-native, containerized, event-driven, and hybrid cloud/on-premise systems.
• Lead enterprise-scale performance testing using tools such as LoadRunner, JMeter, and Gatling.
• Evaluate performance testing tools and observability/APM platforms, correlating test results with production telemetry.
• Present findings to leadership and drive architectural improvements related to performance, resilience, and failover testing.
• Establish performance engineering centers of excellence or maturity models and mentor mid-level and senior engineers.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience architecting and executing performance testing in AWS environments, with 10+ years in IT and at least 5 years in quality engineering, tool architecture, and orchestration.
• Strong experience with LoadRunner, Python, Selenium, JMeter, Java, Cucumber, JavaScript, VBScript, automation frameworks, and Jenkins pipelines.
• Understanding of Kafka, Kubernetes, Docker, Linux, CI/CD, relational databases, and event-driven and containerized system resilience.
• Experience with UC4/Automic, Jira and test management integrations, SQL Server, Oracle, DB2, and enterprise reporting.
• Experience with API and contract testing, service virtualization, SRE principles, observability/APM platforms, and multi-region hybrid architectures.
• B.S. in Computer Science or an analytical field, or equivalent practical experience; AWS or performance engineering certification is beneficial.

Nice to have

• Experience in regulated financial market infrastructure, options and futures, or other low-latency, high-availability environments.
• Familiarity with AI/ML-augmented testing, FinOps, Alteryx, Tableau, Postman, RestAssured, Pact, Splunk, Dynatrace, or AppDynamics.
