Coatings Process Chemistry Technician (E-Coat)

Location: Gallatin, Tennessee, United States; onsite, 1st shift Monday–Friday, 6:00 a.m.–2:30 p.m. No relocation is available. Training will require travel to an alternate facility before startup.

Salary: $28.46–$45.53 per hour.

What you will do

• Conduct daily chemical testing and process control for pretreatment and E-Coat systems, including titrations, pH checks, conductivity testing, and solution-control tests.
• Perform approved chemical additions to E-Coat, pretreatment, zirconium, and supporting process tanks while following SDS, PPE, labeling, storage, and EHS requirements.
• Monitor bath condition, chemical consumption, inventory, reagent availability, sampling practices, and testing repeatability.
• Identify abnormal trends and escalate out-of-specification results, equipment issues, and process conditions affecting coating quality, corrosion performance, adhesion, or line stability.
• Maintain testing records, chemical addition logs, inventories, spreadsheets, electronic quality records, work instructions, visual standards, and training materials.
• Support process chemistry, product quality, lab-efficiency, and non-conformance improvement projects.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in chemistry preferred, or equivalent hands-on experience in industrial process chemistry, coatings, pretreatment, plating, wastewater treatment, surface finishing, or chemical process control.
• 3+ years of experience in laboratory chemical testing, wet chemistry, manufacturing quality, coatings, pretreatment, plating, surface finishing, or related process control.
• Hands-on experience with titrations, pH meters, conductivity meters, sample dilution, concentration calculations, reagent handling, endpoint recognition, and chemical bath control.
• Ability to calculate chemical additions, dilution rates, replenishment requirements, and process adjustments from laboratory results.
• Ability to maintain chemical inventories and coordinate replenishment to support uninterrupted E-Coat operations.
• Ability to work onsite in Gallatin, Tennessee, on a full-time 1st-shift schedule; relocation is not available.

Nice to have

• Experience with E-Coat, conversion coatings, zirconium or phosphate chemistry, corrosion testing, paint or coating quality, or metal-finishing processes.
