Underwriter (Insurance)

Location: Forest, Virginia, United States. Initial training is in person; afterward, the role may allow working from home up to 3 days per week.

Annualized starting base pay: $49,000–$73,000, plus benefits and bonus opportunities.

What you will do

• Learn insurance coverages, contracts, company philosophy, and underwriting procedures.
• Review company policies, manuals, forms, and endorsements to understand their meaning and use.
• Analyze loss experience, financial conditions, and physical characteristics of insurance risks.
• Develop working knowledge of supporting underwriting department functions.
• Communicate verbally and in writing with independent agents and internal employees.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
• Ability to organize data, multitask, and make independent decisions.
• Above-average written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to resolve complex issues.
• Interest in developing product knowledge through approved educational programs.
• Must be able to work in the United States without current or future visa sponsorship.
