Software Engineer 2 (Java)

Location: Cambridge, United Kingdom — hybrid

Salary: GBP 48,100–72,100 per year, plus eligible bonus, equity, pension contribution, and benefits.

What you will do

• Design, develop, test, and maintain cloud-based applications in an agile Scrum environment.
• Collaborate with product owners, architects, application developers, scientists, quality specialists, and product management.
• Implement bug fixes, enhancements, and new features for on-market healthcare products.
• Contribute to architecture alignment, technical discussions, code reviews, and continuous improvement.
• Provide technical support for escalated production issues.
• Apply engineering best practices to deliver reliable, scalable, and maintainable software.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
• Experience developing software with Java or a similar high-level language, using object-oriented analysis and design principles.
• Experience with source control, agile development practices, Scrum or Kanban, relational databases, and data persistence.
• Experience with Java frameworks and technologies such as Spring, Spring Boot, Hibernate, or RabbitMQ.
• Experience with Docker or similar container technologies and exposure to AWS services, AWS Lambda, SNS, SQS, or Kubernetes.
• Strong communication, analytical, collaborative, customer-focused, and ownership skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with AngularJS, KnockoutJS, or similar front-end frameworks.
• Nextflow development experience.
• Knowledge of genomics, bioinformatics, life sciences, or related scientific disciplines.
