Head of Operational Excellence and Enablement, Underwriting

Location: Hybrid, with 3+ days per week in a Guardian office; preferred locations are Boston, MA; Bethlehem, PA; and New York, NY. Remote candidates may be considered if their experience is aligned.

Salary: $155,370.00–$255,255.00 base pay annually.

What you will do

• Develop and execute operational excellence strategies for the Group Benefits Underwriting organization.
• Establish KPIs, benchmarks, and performance metrics for productivity, decision quality, and operational success.
• Use data analytics and underwriting tools to generate insights and optimize workflows and execution.
• Manage quality assurance programs that identify risk, consistency issues, and training needs.
• Lead organizational readiness and change enablement for new processes, technologies, capabilities, and operating models.
• Design training, governance, performance expectations, and operating rhythms that reinforce sustained adoption and underwriting excellence.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in business administration, finance, or a related field; a master’s degree is preferred.
• At least 10 years of experience in underwriting, operations management, or a related field.
• Experience leading operational transformation, large-scale process improvement, and organizational enablement.
• Strong background in Lean, Six Sigma, or similar continuous improvement methodologies.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, leadership, stakeholder engagement, communication, organizational, and time-management skills.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship.
