Senior Underwriter, Retail Property

Location: San Francisco, California, USA; primarily office-based

Salary: $84,000–$115,000 annual base salary, plus eligibility for a bonus.

What you will do

• Underwrite Retail Property products, including large accounts and complex risks.
• Evaluate, prioritize, and select submissions in line with product guidelines and risk appetite.
• Communicate the Retail Property value proposition to brokers and negotiate pricing, terms, conditions, and deal structures.
• Collaborate with Distribution, Territory Managers, brokers, clients, and other lines of business to identify desirable accounts and cross-selling opportunities.
• Build long-term broker and client relationships while achieving rate, renewal retention, new business, and profitable growth goals.
• Develop business plans, participate in special underwriting projects, and mentor less experienced underwriters.

Requirements

• At least 3 years of experience in a commercial insurance company, agency, or brokerage.
• Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university.
• Advanced knowledge of a specific Retail Property line of business, including product features, forms, regulatory environments, and associated risks.
• Demonstrated sales, marketing, relationship-building, analytical, and negotiation abilities.
• Very strong verbal and written communication skills, with a results-oriented and adaptable approach.
• Comfort working with analytical tools and technology in a dynamic environment.
