Senior Database Administrator (Microsoft Azure)

What you will do

• Design, deploy, manage, and optimize Microsoft SQL Server databases across on-premises and Microsoft Azure environments.
• Lead Azure database initiatives and migrations, including secure data transfer, validation, and governance compliance.
• Implement data security controls such as encryption, Azure Active Directory authentication, role-based access control, Key Vault, and Azure Defender for SQL.
• Establish data governance frameworks covering classification, lineage, metadata, quality, accessibility, and compliance.
• Develop backup, recovery, disaster recovery, and high-availability strategies using Azure services and Always On Availability Groups.
• Automate administration and governance tasks with T-SQL, PowerShell, Azure Automation, Azure DevOps, and infrastructure-as-code tools while mentoring junior DBAs and IT staff.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
• At least 7 years of database administration experience, including 3 years in a senior role focused on Microsoft SQL Server, data security, and governance.
• Strong proficiency in T-SQL, SQL Server administration, performance optimization, secure database design, and data governance.
• Extensive Microsoft Azure experience, including Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, Azure security tools, and governance features.
• Experience with SQL Server high availability, Azure disaster recovery, hybrid cloud architectures, and secure synchronization between on-premises and Azure systems.
• Strong analytical and communication skills for mitigating security risks and explaining governance practices to non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Microsoft Azure Database Administrator, Data Management and Analytics, or Security, Compliance, and Identity certifications.
• Knowledge of Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Lake, and Azure Purview.
• Experience with Azure DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, ARM templates, or Terraform.
