Fire Protection Engineering Designer (5+ Years)

Location: Oakland, California, USA; hybrid work schedule

Salary: $95,000–$125,000 yearly, based on experience; paid overtime at 1.0 times the hourly rate

What you will do

• Design automatic suppression, fire detection, alarm, and mass notification systems.
• Analyze building and fire codes, egress, fire-resistant construction, smoke control, and life safety concepts.
• Analyze existing fire alarm systems and develop technical engineering reports, proposals, and execution plans.
• Review project drawings, product data submittals, and shop drawings against specifications, manufacturer instructions, listing requirements, and testing standards.
• Research and document technical information for internal and external distribution.
• Manage day-to-day relationships with internal and external clients and coordinate project needs.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, or a related field.
• At least five years of relevant experience in fire protection systems or engineering consulting.
• Experience with project or construction management in relevant industries and sectors.
• Experience with inspection, testing, and maintenance requirements for fire alarm systems, including knowledge of major manufacturers’ current and legacy products.
• Ability to read and review plans, sections, bills of materials, and computer-aided drafting documentation.
• Strong written and verbal communication, client coordination, project management, and computer skills.

Nice to have

• Manufacturer product certifications.
• Experience with the current versions of AutoCAD and Revit.
