Machine Safety Engineer (Food Testing)

What you will do

• Design and develop engineering controls that eliminate or reduce workplace hazards across laboratory operations.
• Develop lifting and handling devices, ergonomic workstation improvements, equipment modifications, custom fixtures, machine guarding, automated handling solutions, process redesigns, and specialized laboratory equipment.
• Lead projects from concept through implementation, including drawings, specifications, prototypes, testing, validation, installation, and startup support.
• Evaluate recurring hazards across laboratories and create standardized solutions, implementation guides, engineering standards, and best practices.
• Coordinate projects with operations, maintenance, quality, EHS, suppliers, fabricators, contractors, and internal stakeholders.
• Manage project scopes, schedules, budgets, implementation plans, and business cases across multiple simultaneous projects.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of engineering experience in equipment design, product development, manufacturing systems, process improvement, automation, or a related area.
• Experience taking engineering projects from concept through implementation.
• Strong mechanical aptitude, practical problem-solving, communication, and project management skills.
• Experience working with fabrication vendors, machine shops, equipment suppliers, or maintenance organizations.

Nice to have

• Experience with CAD software such as SolidWorks, Inventor, AutoCAD, or similar tools.
• Experience with prototyping, product development, ergonomics, human factors engineering, or material handling systems.
• Experience in laboratory, food manufacturing, pharmaceutical, industrial, or regulated environments.
• Familiarity with automation, robotics, machine guarding, industrial equipment, validation, and change management.
