Test Technician – Product Testing

Location: Morton Grove, Illinois, USA; onsite

John Crane, part of Smiths Group, designs and manufactures engineered rotating equipment solutions, including mechanical seals, couplings, filtration systems, and digital diagnostics technologies.

What you will do

• Assemble and test prototype mechanical seals using bespoke test equipment.
• Interpret engineering drawings, test specifications, P&IDs, and equipment requirements.
• Assist innovation and engineering teams with test plans, experiments, and prototype development.
• Record, analyze, graph, and present test data and findings to testing groups and stakeholders.
• Inspect parts using form and profile tracers, CMM, Mitutoyo, or similar equipment.
• Troubleshoot equipment and prototype issues, perform root cause analysis, create test procedures and SOPs, and support continuous improvement.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• At least three years of experience in a similar hands-on role.
• Technical degree with two or three years of experience preferred.
• Basic CAD skills and the ability to interpret engineering drawings and test specifications.
• Knowledge of compression tube fittings, valves, regulators, controllers, cooling systems, sensors, and mechanical inspection equipment.
• Problem-solving ability, attention to detail, mentoring skills, and a methodical approach to fault finding.
