Project Accountant (Construction)

Location: Lansing, Michigan, United States; full-time onsite work in the Lansing office

What you will do

• Support construction operations with accurate financial data, cost projections, reconciliations, and project financial status reports.
• Track project contracts, insurance policies, waivers, sworn statements, bonds, and other risk management documentation.
• Maintain detailed project financial records for clients, trade contractors, and project files.
• Serve as a point of contact for trade contractors, providing onboarding guidance and answering payment and compliance questions.
• Process project budgets, subcontracts, owner invoices, trade contractor invoices, payments, checks, and change order transactions.
• Manage project start-up and close-out activities, including budget setup, billing adjustments, subcontract finalization, and archiving.

Requirements

• Associate’s degree in business, accounting, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
• At least two years of accounting or project accounting experience.
• High accuracy, advanced attention to detail, integrity, and the ability to handle confidential information professionally.
• Strong communication, writing, problem-solving, analytical, organizational, and prioritization skills.
• Ability to work independently and provide a strong service orientation in a client and consultant environment.
• Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States; visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

• Associate or bachelor’s degree in accounting or business.
• Detailed knowledge of project contracts and change order documents.
• Knowledge of construction industry terminology and at least three years of project accounting experience.
