Senior/Principal Electrical Engineer - Fuel Cell Systems

Location: Albany, New York, United States. Full-time, onsite position with up to 10% travel.

Salary: $95,040–$142,500 per year, with potential geographic pay variation and bonus eligibility.

What you will do

• Serve as the electrical technical authority for hydrogen fuel cell power systems across the full design lifecycle.
• Architect, design, and validate DC/DC converters, high-frequency magnetics, protection systems, and power electronics interfaces.
• Lead embedded control architecture and hardware-software interface definition across DSP, MCU, and FPGA platforms.
• Own system-level electrical architecture, including power distribution, harnesses, sensors, grounding, isolation, and balance-of-plant loads.
• Lead compliance, certification, electrical FMEA, functional safety, and design verification and validation activities.
• Drive stage-gate development, new product introductions, production readiness, supplier collaboration, and mentoring of electrical engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field; a master’s degree is preferred.
• 5+ years of power electronics development experience for Senior level or 10+ years for Principal level, preferably in energy, industrial, automotive, or aerospace industries.
• Expertise in DC/DC converter topology selection, magnetics design, thermal analysis, EMC, PCB design, and electrical system architecture.
• Hands-on embedded controls experience with DSP, MCU, or FPGA platforms, plus proficiency with Altium and circuit simulation tools such as SPICE or MATLAB/Simulink.
• Experience with DVP&R, DFMEA, DV/PV testing, Stage-Gate development, compliance, and certification involving UL, CE, ISO, SAE, or NFPA 2.
• Direct experience with PEM fuel cells, hydrogen energy, or electrochemical power systems, and the ability to communicate complex technical trade-offs to cross-functional, executive, and customer audiences.

Nice to have

• Experience designing and applying SiC or GaN wide-bandgap power devices.
• Familiarity with ISO 26262, IEC 61508, model-based development, and HIL testing.
• Experience with supplier qualification, design for manufacture, end-of-line test strategy, and production launch.
• Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
