Senior Underwriting Specialist, Construction

Location: Toronto, Canada; primarily office-based

Salary: CAD $133,000–$180,000 per year, plus eligibility for a bonus.

What you will do

• Produce and underwrite profitable new and renewal Construction business across Canada and internationally for global clients.
• Select and analyze risks using structured underwriting tools and methods.
• Structure accounts with consideration for risk and profitability, ensuring complete documentation and departmental compliance.
• Develop broker relationships through marketing presentations and relationship management.
• Handle mid-term servicing requirements, identify cross-selling opportunities, and grow targeted business.
• Provide technical underwriting and marketing leadership to colleagues while supporting a One hirify.global multi-line approach.

Requirements

• In-depth Construction underwriting experience covering CAR and EAR occupancies.
• Strong knowledge of policy wording and strong decision-making skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, customer service, and negotiation skills.
• University degree or college diploma.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively, with excellent organization and time management.
• Willingness to stay current with industry, legal, and regulatory trends and pursue continuous improvement.

Nice to have

• Background in Construction Loss Control or Engineering.
