Director, Contract Surety, Western Canada

Location: Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada; regular in-person meetings with brokers and travel required.

Annual base salary: CAD 163,800–213,800, with potential performance-based incentive awards.

What you will do

• Manage profitability, growth, and retention for a highly complex book of surety business.
• Underwrite and negotiate complex customer accounts while minimizing risk and maximizing profitability.
• Build relationships with internal partners and external brokers to develop sales plans and identify growth opportunities.
• Market and sell hirify.global services through in-person broker meetings and travel.
• Develop and execute agency sales plans, partnering with the Managing Director on regional and group strategies.
• Coach, mentor, and provide strategic underwriting counsel to underwriters across the region or business unit.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree.
• At least 5 years of underwriting experience; 8+ years of relevant surety underwriting or brokering experience preferred.
• Expert knowledge of surety products, the regulatory environment, and the local construction market.
• Strong critical-thinking skills and the ability to make timely underwriting and financial decisions within risk appetite.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills, including the ability to manage difficult broker discussions.
• Relevant professional designation.
