Chemical Process Project Engineer (Chemical Manufacturing)

Location: Charlotte, North Carolina, USA; onsite, full-time. Travel of up to 40% is required.

What you will do

• Evaluate and optimize chemical manufacturing processes to improve throughput, quality, yield, cost efficiency, and waste reduction.
• Troubleshoot production issues, lead incident investigations, and implement sustainable corrective actions.
• Lead process scale-up from laboratory or pilot operations to commercial manufacturing.
• Develop process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams, operating procedures, process specifications, risk assessments, and project justifications.
• Lead capital and improvement projects from concept through equipment selection, installation, commissioning, and startup.
• Coordinate with Operations, Maintenance, Quality, and R&D while training plant personnel on new equipment and process changes.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• 3–10 years of experience or training in chemical manufacturing, process engineering, or industrial project engineering.
• Knowledge of mixers, reactors, mills, dispersers, pumps, heat exchangers, filtration systems, thermal reactions, fluid dynamics, and heating and cooling design.
• Experience executing capital projects and installing plant equipment.
• Ability to analyze process data and perform classical design of experiments, including Taguchi orthogonal methods, validation, and implementation of improvements.
• Willingness and availability to travel up to 40%.

Nice to have

• Experience in coatings, inks, resins, polymers, specialty chemicals, or similar industries.
• Professional Engineer license or PMP certification.
