Student Engineering Intern - Data Science

Location: Rapid City, SD, USA; 40 hours per week in the Rapid City office during summer 2026

What you will do

• Collect and analyze data to support engineering staff.
• Develop and implement large-scale database systems.
• Use artificial intelligence and machine learning tools to query, analyze, and disposition large datasets.
• Develop specialized scripts and software utilities using Python, C++, VBA, or other programming languages.
• Work under the direct supervision of experienced engineering staff.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science or advanced degree in computer science, computer engineering, industrial, mechanical, civil, or a related field.
• Knowledge of data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence tools, methods, and applications.
• Strong computer skills using standard office software.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, interpersonal skills, and self-motivation.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with CAE software, including 3D CAD software.
• Strong working knowledge of common programming languages.
• Experience with GIS database systems.
