TL;DR
Drainage/Hydraulics Engineer (Transportation Water Resources): Designing drainage, stormwater, culvert, and hydraulic systems for transportation improvement projects with an accent on hydrologic and hydraulic studies, permitting, and technical leadership. Focus on serving as Engineer of Record, preparing design documentation, coordinating junior staff, and delivering compliant projects within schedule and budget.

Location: Franklin or Chattanooga, Tennessee, United States

Salary: $118,489.97–$135,417.11 annually

What you will do

  • Prepare culvert and bridge hydrologic and hydraulic studies.
  • Design storm drains, culverts, stormwater management systems, and erosion and sediment control measures for transportation projects.
  • Prepare plans, specifications, cost estimates, technical reports, and stormwater permit documentation.
  • Serve as lead drainage engineer and Engineer of Record on assigned projects.
  • Coordinate design development, provide technical direction, and mentor junior water resources staff.
  • Collaborate with client technical staff, project managers, and other engineering disciplines while meeting schedule and budget requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
  • 10+ years of related experience.
  • PE license in Tennessee or ability to obtain it within six months.
  • Experience with highways, intersections, roundabouts, interchanges, widenings, and bicycle and pedestrian facilities.
  • Knowledge of TDOT and local government design and permitting requirements.
  • Experience with hydrologic and hydraulic software, including Geopak Drainage, SUDA, StormCAD, HEC-HMS, and HEC-RAS.

Nice to have

  • TDOT design experience.
  • TDEC Level I and Level II EPSC certification.
  • Experience with OpenRoads Design or Geopak.
  • Experience preparing permit applications for local, state, and federal agencies.
