Commodity Manager - Custom Components, Fabrications & Indirect Materials (Precision Manufacturing)

Location: East Syracuse, New York, USA; full-time onsite role

Salary: USD 95,000–140,000 per year, plus a target 10% profit-sharing bonus

What you will do

• Lead global commodity strategies for custom machined parts, sheet metal, plastics, castings, specialty materials, hardware, and indirect/MRO categories.
• Develop sourcing strategies and should-cost models based on precision manufacturing processes, cost drivers, supplier capabilities, and market dynamics.
• Drive cost reduction through strategic sourcing, supplier development, standardization, value engineering, and spend consolidation.
• Identify, qualify, onboard, and develop suppliers while managing scorecards, business reviews, corrective actions, and improvement plans.
• Establish dual-source and supply continuity strategies for critical fabricated and custom components.
• Negotiate supply agreements and tooling terms, support NPI and engineering changes, and maintain sourcing data in ERP systems.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Industrial Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 6–10 years of commodity management or strategic sourcing experience in custom-fabricated components or precision manufacturing.
• Experience with supplier qualification, tooling management, and first-article or manufacturing qualification processes.
• Strong understanding of precision manufacturing processes, engineering drawings, GD&T, and material specifications.
• Familiarity with ISO 9001, AS9100, ISO 13485, supplier quality systems, and qualification protocols.
• Advanced ERP, Excel, and data visualization skills, including Power BI or Tableau.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree, MBA, or advanced supply chain qualification.
• Experience in semiconductor equipment, precision instrumentation, vacuum technology, medical devices, aerospace/defense, or industrial automation.
• Experience with SAP MM and procurement modules.
• CPSM, CPM, CQE, CSCP, CPIM, or Lean Six Sigma certification.
