Senior Embedded Software Engineer (C/C++)

Location: Hemel Hempstead, UK; regular on-site attendance is required

What you will do

• Design, develop, maintain, and optimize embedded software in C and C++.
• Work across RTOS and Linux-based embedded environments for chemical and explosive trace detection products.
• Lead technical investigations, troubleshoot system performance, and solve complex engineering challenges.
• Collaborate with software, systems, electronics, hardware, and cross-functional engineering teams.
• Conduct code reviews, testing, architecture support, documentation, and Agile development activities.
• Mentor junior engineers and improve software tools, processes, and engineering practices.

Requirements

• At least five years of experience developing software for embedded systems.
• Strong expertise in modern C++ and C, with experience in embedded Linux and/or RTOS environments.
• Experience with microcontrollers, peripherals, hardware debugging tools, real-time systems, and RTOS concepts.
• Knowledge of SPI, I2C, UART, CAN, and USB communication protocols.
• Experience with Git, modern CI/CD practices, Linux system configuration, performance optimization, and troubleshooting.
• Successful BPSS screening, ability to obtain UK Security Check (SC) clearance, and willingness to work regularly on-site in Hemel Hempstead are required.

Nice to have

• Python or other scripting languages for automation.
• Experience with FreeRTOS, ThreadX, or Keil RTX.
• Experience in safety-critical, regulated, or highly engineered environments.
• Open-source software contributions and advanced Linux configuration experience.
