Senior Digital Buildings Consultant (IoT)

Location: Remote within Mountain or Central Time zone regions and California, United States; work at client premises or the local office may be required, with occasional international travel and cross-time-zone project delivery.

What you will do

• Lead consultancy, systems engineering, and project delivery for digital building and IoT technology initiatives.
• Translate client requirements and business objectives into measurable improvements in energy, reliability, cybersecurity, user experience, and operational efficiency.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to multidisciplinary project teams and manage complex stakeholder relationships.
• Design and integrate BAS/BMS, automation, lighting control, and energy management systems using vendor-agnostic open protocols.
• Optimize building performance through controls, data analytics, fault identification, and sustainable digital building design.
• Govern OT/IT integration, system audits, risk mitigation, cybersecurity, compliance, device management, and vendor engagement.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of experience in digital buildings and IoT, working as a consultant, designer, project manager, or engineer.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Controls, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Strong knowledge of digital building systems integration, MEP engineering systems, IP networking, edge-to-cloud architectures, and technical evaluations.
• Experience with controls strategies, system specifications, architectures, schematic drawings, wiring diagrams, operations descriptions, point naming, and asset records.
• Knowledge of BACnet, Modbus, LON, DALI, and MQTT protocols, plus cybersecurity best practices.
• Strong stakeholder management, technical communication, document writing, presentation, and tactical problem-solving skills; proficiency with Google Suite or Microsoft Office.

Nice to have

• Experience with Google, Microsoft, or Amazon cloud platforms and data analytics.
• Familiarity with systems testing and commissioning, Fault Detection and Diagnostics, and automated commissioning systems.
• Knowledge of OT/IT interoperability challenges and RIBA Stages of Work or international equivalents.
