Senior Director Data Science

Location: Chicago, Illinois, United States

Base pay: $161,500–$299,700 annually, plus eligibility for an annual incentive bonus.

What you will do

• Plan, manage, and control the department’s data science and analytics activities.
• Lead analysis of complex business problems using internal and external data.
• Construct predictive models, algorithms, and probability engines, and validate their effectiveness against real-world results.
• Provide data-driven strategic direction and recommendations to address business opportunities and issues.
• Manage, mentor, and lead analysts and junior data science staff.
• Oversee annual budgets, allocate resources, develop business cases, and conduct cost-benefit analyses to support investment decisions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree plus 7 years of relevant quantitative work experience; alternatively, qualifying advanced degrees or equivalent experience.
• At least 4 years of management experience, along with leadership or management experience.
• Experience in at least five of six areas: data analysis and relational query languages, machine learning or statistical modeling, data visualization, high-level programming, distributed computing, and healthcare.
• Experience independently delivering or leading a complex analytics or data science project.
• Experience mentoring, managing, or leading analytics or data science staff.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Access, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, plus strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Nice to have

• Master’s or Ph.D. in a quantitative field, or a bachelor’s degree with healthcare experience.
• Actuarial credentials.
