TL;DR
Sr Managing Actuary (Health Insurance Actuarial Modeling): Managing and critically reviewing actuarial models, studies, and systems for pricing, underwriting, reserving, forecasting, and statistical analysis with an accent on complex model development, business-segment expertise, and cross-functional project management. Focus on teaching model development, preparing decision-support presentations, and managing complex projects involving non-actuarial departments and external parties.

Location: Chicago, Illinois, United States; hybrid work with an in-office requirement of 3 days per week.

Base pay: $112,200–$202,600 annually, plus eligibility for an annual incentive bonus.

What you will do

  • Manage the implementation, maintenance, critical review, and analysis of actuarial models, studies, and systems.
  • Apply actuarial principles to pricing, underwriting, statistics, reserving, forecasting, and related functions.
  • Develop complicated models and teach others how to develop models.
  • Create written and oral presentations that support business decision-making.
  • Manage complex day-to-day projects involving non-actuarial departments and external parties.
  • Apply knowledge across multiple actuarial areas and at least one business segment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, economics, or another eligible discipline.
  • Associate of the Society of Actuaries (ASA) designation and membership in the American Academy of Actuaries (MAAA), including compliance with applicable membership requirements.
  • At least 5 years of actuarial experience in health insurance or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a management or lead capacity.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for documentation, training, development, and presentations.
  • PC proficiency, including Word and Excel.

Nice to have

  • SQL, Visual Basic, or other programming skills.
  • Medicare Part D experience.
  • Medicaid experience.
