Qualitative Geneticist

Location: Remote from anywhere in the Philippines, with some overlap with New Zealand business hours.

Salary: PHP 65,000–85,000 per month, with flexibility for more experienced candidates.

What you will do

• Interpret genetic, pedigree, genomic, and performance data to inform breeding and herd management decisions.
• Assess Wagyu and premium beef traits including marbling, meat quality, temperament, structural soundness, fertility, and maternal performance.
• Support sire and dam selection strategies aligned with long-term herd goals.
• Review EBVs, genomic test results, breed society data, and new domestic and international genetics for suitability in New Zealand systems.
• Recommend genetic improvement pathways and assist with breeding program design.
• Prepare practical reports and explain complex genetic findings to non-technical stakeholders while collaborating across time zones.

Requirements

• Degree in Genetics, Animal Science, Agricultural Science, or a related field.
• Strong understanding of beef cattle genetics and experience interpreting genetic and breeding data in a commercial farming context.
• Ability to translate genetic theory into practical recommendations.
• Strong written communication, analytical thinking, and attention to detail.
• Comfort working independently in a remote environment.
• Must be located in the Philippines and able to provide some overlap with New Zealand business hours.

Nice to have

• Experience with Wagyu genetics.
• Familiarity with New Zealand, Australian, or similar pasture-based beef systems.
• Experience with breed societies, stud breeders, or genetic evaluation programs.
• Exposure to genomic selection tools and qualitative trait assessment frameworks.
