Location: Kearny, New Jersey, United States; on-site

Compensation: $18–25/hour for undergraduate students and $26–30/hour for postgraduate students

hirify.global develops stellarator-based fusion energy systems using computer-controlled arrays of planar coils to support commercial zero-emission energy.

What you will do

  • Own a dedicated research project in a core physics area under the guidance of a senior physicist mentor.
  • Conduct literature reviews and define initial project specifications.
  • Run simulations and analyze data to inform stellarator design.
  • Collaborate with mechanical and electrical engineering teams.
  • Translate physics modeling and simulation results into specifications for engineering design reviews.
  • Track research goals and present project outcomes to the technical team.

Requirements

  • Be pursuing an undergraduate, master's, or PhD degree.
  • Experience in at least one area such as plasma magnetohydrodynamic or gyrokinetic modeling, stellarator equilibrium and coil optimization, plasma control, particle modeling, plasma diagnostics, plasma-material interactions, or neutron transport.
  • Knowledge of scientific computing, high-performance computing, nonlinear constrained optimization, machine learning, data science, Git, or Python.
  • Ability to work on-site in a facility with industrial hazards, including heat, cold, noise, fumes, strong magnets, high voltage, high current, pressure systems, and cryogenics.
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds and perform extended periods of typing, standing, or sitting.
