TL;DR
Sr. Materials Engineer (Lithium-Ion Batteries): Developing and modifying materials processes and evaluation methods for lithium-ion battery production with an accent on materials qualification, supplier collaboration, and manufacturing integration. Location: Sparks, Nevada, United States; onsite. Candidates must have valid authorization to work in the U.S. without restriction.

What you will do

  • Develop and modify processes and methods for introducing materials into lithium-ion battery production.
  • Collaborate with North American suppliers to accelerate multi-sourcing, localization, material development, and quality improvement.
  • Serve as a technical point of contact for existing and potential material suppliers.
  • Establish material evaluation systems, specifications, analytical methods, and standard operating procedures.
  • Analyze manufacturing data, conduct experiments, investigate failures, and improve product manufacturability and cell performance.
  • Lead internal initiatives, coordinate cross-functional projects, mentor junior engineers, and maintain safe laboratory practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrochemical Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, or a similar discipline.
  • 7+ years of engineering experience in manufacturing, product development, design, quality control, or a related area.
  • Expert understanding of analytical methodologies and strong knowledge of materials used in battery manufacturing.
  • Experience with statistical analysis, data-driven problem solving, and Design of Experiments.
  • Ability to define material specifications, lead complex cross-functional projects, work independently, and influence stakeholders.
  • Ability to mentor junior engineers and collaborate with internal teams and external suppliers.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree or Ph.D. in a relevant engineering or scientific discipline.
  • Background in high-volume manufacturing and battery materials development.
  • Understanding of battery material selection, electrochemical cell performance, and battery cell design.
