TL;DR
FPGA/Firmware Engineer (FPGA/firmware): Developing and supporting FPGA systems for mission-critical torpedo programs with an accent on architecture, verification, simulation, and full lifecycle ownership. Focus on evaluating synthesis, place and route, timing, and power utilization, troubleshooting hardware in the field, and presenting technical results to government customers.

Location: Rhode Island, United States; US citizenship required due to government requirements.

A defense contractor's Torpedo Systems Group developing FPGA-based systems for national security programs.

What you will do

  • Drive FPGA design, verification, documentation, simulation, and delivery from concept through completion.
  • Contribute to system architecture, module interfaces, and detailed device design decisions.
  • Evaluate synthesis, place and route, timing, power utilization, test results, and system performance.
  • Present requirements, designs, and results to management, engineering teams, and government customers.
  • Improve FPGA development processes, standards, procedures, and tools across the organization.
  • Support customer-site installation, troubleshooting, and corrective actions for delivered products.

Requirements

  • US citizenship is required due to government requirements.
  • Must be willing to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance and pass a background check, including criminal, credit, education, employment, and drug screening.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering, or a related science, engineering, or mathematics field, plus at least 8 years of relevant experience; or a master's degree plus at least 6 years of relevant experience.
  • Expertise in FPGA design, verification, system architecture, and development of new FPGA engineering theories and methods.
  • Experience with Git or comparable software source control, Linux, C, multithreaded programming, and real-time operating systems.
  • Experience troubleshooting hardware with digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, function generators, and similar equipment, plus strong written and verbal communication skills.
