Lead AI Engineer

Location: Remote-first from Stuttgart or Berlin, with occasional team events, workshops, or meetings in the Berlin or Stuttgart offices. Remote work from the European Union is also supported.

What you will do

• Own and align the AI architecture and engineering standards across hirify.global Fusion, the Ask AI agent gateway, and hirify.global Flows.
• Design and develop purpose-built, generalizable multi-agent systems with a focus on feasibility, reliability, and cost effectiveness.
• Lead and grow a team of three AI engineers through technical guidance, coaching, and people management.
• Spend approximately 70% of the time writing code and solving the most complex engineering problems.
• Influence product managers and engineering leads through architecture decisions, RFCs, design reviews, and technical standards.
• Work with Python, pydantic-ai, Qdrant, Azure AI, Kubernetes, Kotlin, Micronaut, and Go-based backend systems.

Requirements

• 7+ years of software engineering experience with a senior- or staff-level track record in backend, platform, or full-stack engineering.
• Hands-on production experience designing, shipping, and operating LLM-powered systems, including RAG, tool calling, MCP, orchestration, and evaluations.
• Strong experience with multi-agent orchestration.
• Technical leadership experience covering architecture ownership, technical leadership, RFCs, design reviews, or engineering standards.
• Demonstrated ability to influence work across teams through technical credibility and persuasion.
• Explicit commitment to people leadership and managing three engineers. Business-fluent English at C1 level is required.

Nice to have

• Formal people-management experience, including line management, performance conversations, development planning, or hiring.
• Experience leading an engineering discipline or craft across teams in a matrix organisation.
• Experience with frontline workforces, high-volume B2B SaaS, or comparable product environments.
• Experience improving LLM cost, latency, and reliability through guardrails, fallbacks, and evaluation harnesses.
• German at any level.
