Vehicle Network and Diagnostics Validation Engineer (Automotive)

Location: Troy, Michigan, United States. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States on a permanent basis; travel of up to 20% is required.

Annual base pay: $108,877–$163,316 USD.

What you will do

• Develop and execute validation strategies, test plans, and test cases for vehicle communication and diagnostic requirements while maintaining requirements-to-results traceability.
• Build and maintain bench, HIL, and vehicle-level test setups, including residual bus simulation, restbus configurations, and fault injection.
• Validate CAN communication databases, diagnostic content, ECU implementations, UDS services, DTC management, software flashing, and update solutions.
• Develop automated regression scripts using CAPL, Python, or vendor tooling and integrate them into CI/CD pipelines.
• Document, reproduce, triage, and track defects and field or manufacturing issues through closure.
• Support homologation, manufacturing, end-of-line, service-tool, and diagnostic-tool validation activities.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Electronics, Computer, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field; a master’s degree is preferred.
• 5+ years validating vehicle network architectures, ECU communication strategies, automotive diagnostics, and embedded software.
• Hands-on experience with CAN, UDS, XCP, ISO 14229, ISO 15765, ISO 11898, E2E protection, bootloaders, software flashing, FOTA, Secure Boot, and ECU cybersecurity.
• Experience with Vector CANoe, CANalyzer, vTESTstudio, Vehicle Spy, ETAS, Wireshark, and EOL test platforms.
• Experience with requirements management, test authoring, traceability, verification, validation, and defect tracking using tools such as DOORS, Polarion, JIRA, Bitbucket, or RTC.
• Permanent United States work authorization is required; visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

• Experience with dSPACE, NI, or Vector VT System HIL platforms and bench hardware such as harnesses, load boxes, and fault injection units.
• Experience with CANoe Option.DiVa, J1979-3 compliance, OBD diagnostics, and automated diagnostic test generation.
• Knowledge of CAN/CAN FD arbitration, error handling, bus-off recovery, physical-layer fault injection, timing analysis, and bus-load analysis.
• Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines and producing validation reports and dashboards.
