Data Engineer Lead (Databricks)

Location: Bethesda, Maryland, United States; hybrid schedule with candidates expected to be located in the DMV area for in-person collaboration.

What you will do

• Lead day-to-day technical execution for engineering teams delivering data and analytics solutions.
• Design, develop, troubleshoot, and optimize scalable data pipelines, integrations, and processing frameworks using Databricks and AWS.
• Guide and mentor engineers through technical leadership, collaboration, and code reviews.
• Collaborate with architects, program leadership, application engineers, QA teams, and business analysts to deliver project-aligned solutions.
• Break requirements into actionable development tasks and support backlog refinement, sprint planning, estimation, and sprint execution.
• Support production operations, root-cause analysis, performance improvement, testing, maintainability, and operational excellence.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain any required clearance or suitability determination.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.
• 8+ years of experience building and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines and large-scale data-processing solutions.
• Hands-on expertise with Databricks and modern data engineering frameworks, plus experience in AWS cloud environments.
• Strong proficiency in Python and/or Spark-based data processing, with familiarity with CI/CD, Git workflows, and Agile/Scrum practices.
• Strong troubleshooting, communication, collaboration, technical leadership, and stakeholder-management skills, including experience in client-facing or consulting environments.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in a relevant field.
• Databricks Certified Data Engineer Associate or Databricks Certified Machine Learning Associate.
• AWS Certified Data Analytics – Specialty or AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional.
