Senior Patient Financial Navigation Specialist (Healthcare Billing)

Location: Remote, based on the U.S. East Coast; schedule: 11:30am–8pm ET

What you will do

• Provide expert guidance on insurance coverage, billing, financial assistance, and payment plans.
• Resolve complex and escalated patient billing inquiries with empathy, clarity, and professionalism.
• Navigate payer portals, websites, and phone systems to verify eligibility and obtain prior authorization, claim, and appeal status information.
• Collaborate with billing, commercial, customer service, providers, insurers, and internal stakeholders to improve communication and patient experience.
• Mentor junior navigators and contribute to training programs, best practices, policy development, and strategic planning.
• Analyze patient financial concerns and recommend process improvements that reduce financial stress and improve operational efficiency.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• 4+ years of experience in healthcare billing, insurance coordination, patient financial services, or patient financial navigation.
• Strong understanding of health insurance plans, benefits, and coverage verification processes.
• Experience managing complex patient cases and explaining financial and insurance information clearly.
• Experience with Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel, as well as CRM and billing software such as Salesforce, Epic, XiFin, or Quadax.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and patient advocacy skills.

Nice to have

• Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration, business, or a related field.
