Network Engineer (AWS)

Location: Durham, North Carolina (RTP), United States; regular on-site presence required

Salary: $94,000–$125,000 annual base pay, with potential bonus and incentives

What you will do

• Design, implement, and support enterprise networking across campus, laboratory, data center, manufacturing, and AWS environments.
• Operate Juniper and Aruba switching and routing infrastructure, including Layer 2/Layer 3 networking, VLANs, routing protocols, and high availability.
• Manage Palo Alto firewalls, security policies, NAT, VPNs, GlobalProtect, URL filtering, and threat-prevention services.
• Build AWS networking and hybrid connectivity using VPCs, Transit Gateway, Route Tables, Security Groups, Network ACLs, Site-to-Site VPNs, and Direct Connect.
• Develop automation with Python, Ansible, Terraform, PowerShell, or similar tools, and maintain monitoring, alerting, dashboards, and operational visibility.
• Collaborate with Platform Engineering, Cloud Engineering, Security, Infrastructure, and application teams while participating in lifecycle management, documentation, disaster recovery, and on-call support.

Requirements

• 4+ years of experience designing, implementing, and supporting enterprise network infrastructure.
• 3+ years of hands-on experience with Juniper and/or Aruba platforms, including switching, routing, and troubleshooting.
• 3+ years of experience managing Palo Alto Networks firewalls and 2+ years of experience with AWS networking services.
• Experience with BGP, OSPF, VLANs, STP, LACP, VRRP, Layer 2/Layer 3 troubleshooting, VPNs, DNS, DHCP, and network security.
• Experience with Python, Ansible, Terraform, PowerShell, infrastructure as code, network monitoring, Linux, and Windows enterprise environments.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience; willingness to participate in on-call rotation and overtime as required.

Nice to have

• Experience with EVPN/VXLAN, Aruba CX, Aruba Central, AWS Direct Connect, VMware vSphere, and hybrid cloud architectures.
• Experience with Git-based version control, CI/CD pipelines, Active Directory, PKI, RADIUS, and enterprise authentication.
• Experience in laboratory, biotechnology, healthcare, manufacturing, or regulated environments.
• Relevant Juniper, Aruba, Palo Alto, or AWS certifications and experience mentoring junior engineers.
• Comfort using AI-assisted engineering tools with sound engineering judgment and security practices.
