TL;DR
Senior Avionics Electrical Engineer (Electric Propulsion) (Spacecraft Electronics): Designing and testing custom circuit boards and avionics devices that power an electric propulsion system with an accent on actuator drivers, power converters, and spacecraft hardware ownership. Focus on performing circuit-level analysis and simulations, debugging complex electronics, verifying requirements through testing, and integrating hardware onto space vehicles.

Location: Redondo Beach, United States; onsite. Applicants must be U.S. Persons or eligible to obtain a U.S. export license under ITAR/EAR requirements.

Salary: $140,000–$180,000 per year, plus potential stock options and benefits.

What you will do

  • Develop and own circuit boards for spacecraft electric propulsion systems, with emphasis on actuator drivers and power converters.
  • Define subsystem requirements, hardware interfaces, verification approaches, and system-level validation plans.
  • Perform circuit-level and subsystem analyses, simulations, trade studies, and development testing.
  • Lead board bring-up, laboratory debugging, qualification, flight integration, and operations.
  • Collaborate with firmware, software, mechanical, manufacturing, propulsion, and test teams.
  • Conduct design reviews and root-cause investigations, improve products through failure analysis, and mentor less experienced engineers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • 5+ years of professional experience developing electrical hardware.
  • Expertise in component selection, analysis, simulation, schematics, and PCB layout.
  • Knowledge of analog and power circuit design, ADCs, DACs, op-amps, filtering, power integrity, and signal integrity.
  • Hands-on experience troubleshooting complex electronics at the board level.
  • Ability to communicate technical challenges, explain design rationale, and resolve concerns.

Nice to have

  • Experience with Altium Designer.
  • Experience developing power converters, analog or digital electronics, load switches, engine controllers, or related spacecraft and rocket hardware.
  • Experience with radiation-tolerant electrical design, component derating, SEE mitigation, and fault-tolerant architecture.
  • Startup or agile development experience.
  • Experience with Spice or SIMPLIS simulation engines.
