TL;DR
Senior Test Hardware Engineer (Electrical) (Aerospace): Designing, building, deploying, and supporting reusable electrical test hardware for spacecraft test infrastructure with an accent on data acquisition, controls, instrumentation, power distribution, and electrical integration. Focus on developing standardized architectures, commissioning complex test assets, troubleshooting hardware and software interfaces, and supporting onsite test operations.

Location: Redondo Beach, United States; onsite. Occasional travel to test sites is required for asset bring-up, onsite debugging, and coordination with test teams. Applicants must be U.S. Persons or eligible to obtain an applicable U.S. export license under ITAR/EAR regulations.

Salary: $130,000–$160,000 per year, plus potential stock options.

What you will do

  • Design, build, deploy, maintain, and improve reusable electrical test hardware platforms for data acquisition, controls, instrumentation, power distribution, networking, and computer-integrated test assets.
  • Create electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, cable designs, bills of materials, assembly instructions, checkout procedures, and operating documentation.
  • Develop standardized hardware architectures that enable safe, reliable, maintainable, and reusable test systems.
  • Manage the hardware lifecycle from requirements and design through procurement, fabrication, integration, commissioning, deployment, and maintenance.
  • Collaborate with software automation engineers, IT, test operations, and cross-functional teams to configure computers, integrate systems, and troubleshoot test infrastructure.
  • Support new test asset bring-up and resolve issues across electrical hardware, software interfaces, networking, and test systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical, aerospace, mechanical, or a related engineering discipline.
  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience designing, building, integrating, or operating electrical test hardware, laboratory equipment, industrial automation systems, or similar engineering hardware.
  • Experience creating and maintaining electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, bills of materials, and assembly documentation.
  • Experience with EPLAN or a similar electrical design tool, plus working knowledge of data acquisition, instrumentation, sensors, controls, wiring, power supplies, networking, and electrical system integration.
  • Hands-on experience with hardware checkout, commissioning, troubleshooting, and operation in a fast-paced environment.
  • U.S. Person status or eligibility to obtain an applicable U.S. export license is required due to ITAR/EAR restrictions.

Nice to have

  • 7+ years of relevant hands-on experience and strong EPLAN expertise, including project structure, device tagging, terminal blocks, wire numbering, panel layouts, reports, and drawing release workflows.
  • Experience designing modular test platforms, low-voltage electrical systems, cable harnesses, grounding schemes, interlocks, emergency-stop circuits, and power distribution systems.
  • Experience with NI, Beckhoff, ifm, PLCs, real-time control systems, IO-Link, Ethernet/IP, EtherCAT, remote I/O, DAQ chassis, controllers, and industrial electrical components.
  • Mechanical design experience with enclosures, carts, racks, brackets, sheet metal, and serviceable assemblies.
  • Experience with Teamcenter, PLM systems, configuration-controlled documentation, engineering release workflows, or technician training.
