Senior Backend Engineer

Location: 100% remote within the United States

Salary: $100,000–$112,000 annually

What you will do

• Design, build, and operate large-scale, high-throughput backend services for mission-critical workloads.
• Architect core platforms used by other engineering teams.
• Improve scalability, reliability, performance, and engineering quality across distributed systems.
• Operate systems at scale through capacity planning, performance tuning, debugging, and root-cause analysis.
• Collaborate across teams, document technical solutions, and mentor engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.
• At least 6 years of professional backend engineering experience, including significant distributed systems work; the posting lists 7+ years as the experience requirement.
• Strong programming skills in Java, Go, Scala, or a similar language.
• Deep understanding of consensus, replication, and CAP trade-offs, plus hands-on experience with Kafka or similar high-throughput messaging systems.
• Strong SQL skills and experience with relational and NoSQL databases, as well as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
• U.S. work authorization is required; U.S. Citizens, Green Card Holders, EAD Holders, and H-1B transfer candidates are encouraged to apply. New H-1B visa petitions cannot be sponsored.

Nice to have

• Experience leading complex technical initiatives across multiple teams.
• Production experience with Kubernetes-based platforms.
• Exposure to Istio, Linkerd, chaos engineering, or relevant open-source distributed systems projects.
