Principal Engineer (AI/ML)

Location: 100% remote from anywhere in the United States; 10% travel to the Cincinnati, Ohio headquarters for company and team meetings at least five times per year, for 3–4 days at a time.

Salary: $190,000–$210,000 per year

What you will do

• Design and develop scalable AI/ML-powered full-text and vector search services using Java, Python, and Lucene.
• Lead resilient, event-driven microservices and distributed data processing pipelines across AWS and Azure.
• Architect high-performance NoSQL storage and streaming solutions using DynamoDB, Cassandra, MongoDB, Kafka, and Kinesis.
• Develop secure, high-performance RESTful and GraphQL APIs and real-time data pipelines using Spring Batch, Kafka, Spark, and Snowflake.
• Define long-term technology strategies, technical standards, documentation, and security-first engineering practices.
• Mentor engineers, deconstruct complex projects into maintainable systems, support technical audits, and ensure compliance with security standards and Twelve-Factor App principles.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• At least 5 years of experience in the offered role or a related field, including 3 years of hands-on public cloud experience with SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS.
• Strong experience with Java, Python, Spring Boot, microservices, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Elasticsearch, Apache Kafka, Spark, and distributed data processing.
• Experience with AWS or Azure, Amazon EKS or Azure AKS, Docker, Kubernetes, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, and ArgoCD.
• Experience with OAuth2, OpenID Connect, SAML, encryption, data privacy, security principles, and Twelve-Factor App methodology.
• Must be able to work from within the United States and travel to Cincinnati, Ohio, as required.
