TL;DR
Staff Data Scientist (Insurance Tech) (Python/SQL/Statistics): Analyzing claims, product, and client data to guide insurance product decisions, measure ROI, and generate actionable insights with an accent on experimental design, statistical modeling, and clear data storytelling. Focus on solving ambiguous measurement problems, building reproducible analytics and reporting pipelines, and translating modeling results into recommendations for Engineering, Product, leadership, and insurance clients.

Location: New York, NY, United States. Sponsorship is available for candidates currently in the U.S. who need to transfer an active visa.

Base salary: up to $250,000 per year, plus an annual bonus and company equity plan.

What you will do

  • Analyze claims, product, and client data to support leadership, Engineering, Product, and business decision-making.
  • Design and evaluate A/B and multi-arm experiments, including measurement approaches for small-data and high-variance problems.
  • Generate product research directions through exploratory data analysis and hypothesis testing.
  • Build client-facing analyses, dashboards, and reporting that demonstrate product impact and ROI.
  • Partner with the ML team to analyze modeling outcomes, debug data issues, and communicate findings to colleagues and clients.
  • Write efficient SQL, maintain reproducible analytics code and CLI tools, conduct code reviews, and lead cross-organizational analytics projects.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of data analysis or quantitative experience, preferably in Machine Learning and Product environments.
  • At least 2 years of experience mentoring or tech-leading junior analysts and business-critical analytics projects.
  • Master's degree in statistics or an equivalent quantitative field.
  • Advanced knowledge of statistics, linear and non-parametric modeling, and SQL engineering.
  • Proficiency with Python, pandas, Jupyter notebooks, SQL-based analytics dashboards, and Python visualization tools.
  • Strong communication, data storytelling, presentation, product analytics, and business analytics skills.

Nice to have

  • PhD in statistics or a related quantitative field.
  • Experience with Bayesian statistics and causal inference.
  • Production-quality code for reproducible analytics pipelines.
