TL;DR
Manager, Spacecraft Mechanical Design (Aerospace/Mechanical Engineering): Leading hands-on mechanical design and development for spacecraft structures and mechanisms with an accent on design reviews, design-for-manufacture, and design-for-integration. Focus on mentoring a team of 6–10 engineers, organizing complex spacecraft hardware programs, and developing designs through testing and production in a high-pressure environment.

Location: Long Beach, California, United States. The role is based at the global headquarters and requires eligibility to work in the United States under ITAR regulations.

Base pay: $140,000–$190,000 USD annually, plus company stock.

What you will do

  • Manage, coach, and mentor a team of 6–10 mechanical design engineers through one-on-ones, performance reviews, and career development.
  • Lead spacecraft mechanical development programs while contributing as an individual engineer to design and development work.
  • Conduct peer reviews of mechanical designs, drawings, standards, documentation templates, and test specifications.
  • Coordinate with supply chain, assembly integration and test, production, quality, mechanical engineering, and test engineering teams.
  • Iterate spacecraft design concepts with a focus on design-for-manufacture and design-for-integration.
  • Organize engineering teams to execute larger projects and maintain mechanical design processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in aerospace, mechanical, or another engineering discipline.
  • 8+ years of engineering experience, including spacecraft or satellite design experience.
  • At least 1 year of experience as a team lead, manager, or technical leader.
  • US citizenship or other ITAR-compliant authorization is required for US office roles.
  • Strong mechanical and structural engineering experience, including spacecraft structures and mechanisms.

Nice to have

  • Experience with Siemens NX, Teamcenter, CAD, drafting, and GD&T.
  • Experience taking spacecraft hardware from concept through launch and environmental testing.
  • Knowledge of fabrication processes, including CNC machining and additive manufacturing.
  • Experience with composites, spacecraft structural dynamics, vibration testing, and non-linear material simulation.
  • Experience with spacecraft assemblies, deployables, avionics, or propulsion systems.
