Software Engineer (AI)

Location: Hybrid in Fort Meade, Maryland and Columbia, Maryland, United States. On-site work is required at customer facilities in Fort Meade at least 1 day per week and at company headquarters in Columbia at least 1 day per week; frequency may increase based on operational needs.

Salary: $115,199–$150,000 per year.

What you will do

• Design, develop, and implement complex Java software capabilities for computer-based systems.
• Design and build enterprise APIs, RESTful web services, and microservices.
• Integrate AI coding agents such as Claude Code and Gemini into software engineering workflows.
• Use autonomous agents for multi-file feature implementation, codebase refactoring, and automated unit and integration test generation.
• Guide agents through multi-repository architectures and audit generated code for security, performance, and architectural alignment.
• Collaborate with engineers in a fast-paced small-business environment while troubleshooting issues and meeting multiple deadlines.

Requirements

• Active TS/SCI U.S. Government Security Clearance and U.S. Citizenship are required.
• At least 5 years of software engineering experience with modern Java frameworks and libraries, plus a related bachelor's degree; alternative experience and education combinations are accepted.
• Experience with enterprise APIs, RESTful web services, microservices architecture, and object-oriented programming.
• Experience with the agile software lifecycle and configuration management tools such as Git, Nexus, and Maven.
• Comfort working on the Linux command line, strong testing and troubleshooting skills, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Ability to meet the required hybrid on-site schedule in Fort Meade and Columbia, Maryland.

Nice to have

• Experience with cloud technologies such as AWS or Azure.
• Experience with distributed and NoSQL databases or full-text search engines such as Elasticsearch, MongoDB, or Solr.
• Scripting experience and familiarity with data lakes or warehouses.
• Experience using Claude Code or Gemini for feature delivery, refactoring, and automated testing.
• Familiarity with Agile tools such as Jira, Confluence, and GitHub Enterprise.
