Senior Accounting Manager

Location: New York City, United States; in-office work experience

Salary: $170,000–$210,000 per year for candidates based in the United States, plus potential variable compensation, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Own premium trust accounting, including weekly bank reconciliation by customer and policy and resolution of unapplied carrier payments.
• Build and manage revenue recognition for policies, commissions, fees, cancellations, endorsements, and carrier statements.
• Own the corporate books, monthly close, GAAP financial statements, compliance calendar, taxes, 1099s, and state filings.
• Automate recurring reconciliations, invoice analysis, remittance processing, unapplied cash workflows, and refund tracking.
• Improve the chart of accounts, department mapping, event attribution, and subledger architecture to make financial reporting reliable and actionable.
• Prepare the accounting function for the 2027 audit, including documented policies, source evidence, payroll and equity compensation, and clean opening balances.

Requirements

• CPA qualification with experience across Big 4 public accounting and high-growth industry roles.
• Experience with brokerage accounting or the ability to learn trust funds, agency and direct billing, commissions, return commissions, and premium finance quickly.
• Experience automating recurring accounting work and using SQL for financial analysis or controls.
• Strong understanding of accounting systems, controls, subledgers, close processes, and GAAP reporting.
• Ability to independently own accounting judgment, deadlines, and financial accuracy without direct reports initially.
• Ability to work in the New York City office environment.

Nice to have

• Experience with QuickBooks, modern billing platforms, and custom accounting tooling.
• Experience preparing an organization for an external audit.
