Senior Manager, Compute Accounting (AI)

Location: San Francisco, CA or New York City, NY; staff are expected to work from one of the offices at least 25% of the time

What you will do

• Own the complete accounting lifecycle for compute and cloud infrastructure expenses, including monthly close, reconciliations, accruals, prepaids, journal entries, and flux analysis.
• Review cloud service provider and infrastructure contracts, assess accounting treatment, track commitments, and ensure compliance with contractual terms.
• Apply technical accounting judgment to compute arrangements under ASC 842, including embedded-lease identification, lease-versus-service classification, measurement, modifications, and reassessments.
• Develop accounting policies, controls, accrual and prepayment processes, and reporting systems for capacity reservations, savings plans, committed-use discounts, and multi-year purchase obligations.
• Partner with Engineering, Legal, Procurement, Finance, cloud providers, and external auditors to resolve discrepancies and support accurate reporting.
• Lead process transformation and automation initiatives, including redesigned close workflows, automated data pipelines, reporting, and AI-assisted tools; mentor accounting professionals across the Compute Accounting team.

Requirements

• 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including significant exposure to cloud service or compute infrastructure expenses and related contracts.
• CPA or equivalent qualification with deep knowledge of GAAP and strong technical accounting expertise.
• Working knowledge of ASC 842 for compute, infrastructure, or data center arrangements.
• Experience with cloud service provider cost structures, consumption-based services, accounting processes, controls, and policy development in high-growth environments.
• Strong analytical, communication, problem-solving, cross-functional collaboration, mentoring, and project leadership skills.
• Proficiency with modern ERP systems such as NetSuite, Workday, Oracle, or similar; a bachelor’s degree or equivalent education, training, and experience is required.

Nice to have

• SQL and BigQuery proficiency, plus Python skills for automation and analytical tools.
• Experience with cloud providers, data center operators, or technology companies using consumption-based business models.
• Big Four accounting or advisory experience combined with technology industry experience.
• Exposure to colocation, GPU clusters, networking equipment, data center buildouts, or infrastructure lease and asset structures.
• Experience implementing automated reconciliation and reporting solutions, commitment-based purchasing agreements, or AI-assisted finance tools.
